DITL- Autumn has arrived

I have filmed another 'day in the life' video for you all to see. Jackson was still recovering from being ill but we managed a lovely forest walk anyway. Like the last time, it was also date night again!

Enjoy...

Morning routine

I recently blogged about Jackson's evening routine and it was well received, so I thought that I would share our morning routine too. Here it is...

Chris is often up and out the door by 6:00am to either walk the dogs or go for a run with them. I on the other hand, snooze until around 6:30am, before I drag myself out of bed and into the shower.

I am normally ready at about 7:00am, just before the little man wakes up. He then has his milk while strolling around upstairs, which gives us a bit of family time before Chris heads off to work. By 7:30am, we all head downstairs and say goodbye to Dada for the day.

Next, it's breakfast time for both Jackson and Mama. Most importantly, its coffee time for Mama too! Today, Jackson had scrambled egg, toast and watermelon (incase you were wondering, I haven't put milk in my cereal for this photo as I normally have it a bit later, plus I stole Daddies mug today, whoops!).

After all the food has been eaten, it's play time!

We then slowly head upstairs to brush his teeth and get dressed.

By that point, it's normally between 8:30 - 9:00am and we have another play before heading out for a fun activity at about 9:30am.

Hope you enjoyed spending the morning with us!

21 and 22 Week Pregnancy Update

Seen as I have fallen behind a week in my updates and not a great deal has happened over the last 2 weeks, I have combined them both together. Here is my 21 and 22 week pregnancy update....

(Please ignore the end of the day face, just about to head out to yoga!)

Symptoms: Again, I am just feeling very normal, apart from a few growing pains, but nothing that has made me feel really bad. I have suffered quite a bit with heart burn the last week though, even to the point that I am waking up at night and reaching for the 'Rennies'!
Food Cravings: Nothing in particular this week!
Movement: Chris felt the bubba move at 21 weeks, which was amazing!!! Then, at the same time, Jackson came up behind him and gave him a big hug - we couldn't have asked for a more perfect moment! Since then, the movements have got more frequent but are very very low down.
Sleep: Again, no problems sleeping this week (thank goodness!).

Things I am missing: Nothing really these past two weeks (sorry a bit of a boring week!).
Best Moment: Has got to be Chris feeling the bubba move.
Worst Moment: I have felt a bit fat this week and not so much a beautiful, glowing pregnant woman!

Toddler boy haul

Now that Autumn has arrived, I decided to do a bit of shopping for Jackson, mainly from Zara with a couple of bits from Next, H&M and Primark too.

Enjoy...

Weekly Meal Plan

Our new baby is on the way, so we are trying to save as much money as possible - one of my tricks is meal planning.

When meal planning, I don't tend to work out meals for specific days of the week, as I just decide what I want to eat/make each day, depending on what I fancy. I also bulk-make some of the meals, so that I don't have to cook every day. I either put some in the freezer or just keep it in the fridge for a couple of days. I also try to make things that Jackson will eat as well, so he can have the same as us.

I normally make dinner, or at least part of it, at lunchtime, when Jackson is asleep, as it means we get to eat at a reasonable time when he goes to bed. I also found this helpful when I was suffering from all day sickness in the first few months of pregnancy because it stopped me getting too hungry, otherwise I would end up feeling worse.

Below, I have listed this week's meal plan:

Feta and spinach pie - This is Chris' favourite, it's a brilliant lunchtime meal too.

Joe's Chicken Pie - Another of our favourites (I think we are fans of Filo pastry).

Sausage and Lentil Casserole - This is similar to a recipe I make, except I don't use red wine and put loads more vegetables in it. If we have any sweet chilli jam I also put a tablespoon of that in, as it gives it a bit of a kick. This is also my favourite regular meal.

Lamb and apricot stew - A really tasty one and works well for leftover-lunch too.

Chicken, goats cheese and cherry tomato bake - This is a brilliant dinner party recipe and can be prepared ahead of time and then just put in the oven when guests arrive.

What are your favourite recipes?

Sweet Potato Crips

I think I must have one of the hungriest toddlers ever, who quite often wants to eat again only an hour after having his breakfast! All the shop-brought healthy baby snacks are brilliant and handy at times, however, the cost quickly racks up when you buy them all the time. It was for this reason that I decided to hit Pinterest to try and come up with some new ideas for homemade on-the-go snacks.

After looking for a while, I found these Sweet Potato Crisps. They are sooooo easy and cheap to make and, while they do take a while from start to finish, they don't need constant attention so you can just leave them in the oven to cook. I have made these loads of times now and feel that I have perfected the process!

Here is how you do it...

Firstly, you just need a sweet potato (a small one is plenty for a toddler and a few for mummy) and some olive oil. I have been using 'Fry Light', as you really only need a tiny amount.

I use a food processor with the cutter attachment for the quickest and neatest shapes. However, most cheese graters have the slicer bit on them, or you can just cut them with a knife, but I would try to cut them as thin as possible.

Then you lay all of the slices out on a baking tray - I have 4 baking trays that I use (told you it makes loads) and you then spray them with a tiny amount of the fry light/olive oil.

Next, you simply pop them into a pre heated oven at 120c for 1 hour. After the timer has gone, you will need to get them out and flip them over before putting them back into the oven for another 40 mins.

They made need longer if they still look and feel moist, depending on your oven.

Once they cool down a bit, they are ready for snack time!

If I was making them just for adults, a bit of garlic & salt or paprika & salt would taste amazing too.

Let me know if you make these or if you have any other good ideas for homemade toddler snacks!

20 Week Pregnancy Update

Here is my 20 week pregnancy update....

So, I completely forgot to take a picture this week but thought I would include one of the scan and a little baby-grow Chris and I brought just after it.

Symptoms: I am amazed that I am now half way!!! And this week, I have felt very normal. I am slightly tired at times but I don't think it's anything to do with pregnancy, probably just down to working and normal life with a toddler.

Food Cravings: Nothing in particular this week!
Movement: We had the 20 week scan and I found out that the placenta is at the front, as I had suspected, which is why I have not felt movements quite as much recently.
Sleep: I have had no problems sleeping this week - Chris got my pregnancy pillow down from the loft a few weeks ago but I have only just started using it (forgot how comfy it was)!

Things I am missing: I am missing my wardrobe, big time, as I have very little things to wear at the moment. Think I am going to have to start doing some serious maternity shopping!!!
Best Moment: Having the 20 week scan and hearing that the little one is growing just perfectly, actually on the slightly small size which is not like Jackson at all!! But they do say that the baby doesn't really start piling on the weight until 28 weeks, so we'll just have to wait and see! All the other checks came back fine and he/she looks like a healthy baby.
Not really sure how I managed to not ask but we decided that we would not find out what we were having this time.
Worst Moment: Nothing comes to mind this time, must have been a lovely week!!
